Involvment in continual improvement of the profession should be a central responsibility for psychiatrists. Dr. Cook serves in a number of capacities in these professional societies
- Executive Committee on Practice Guidelines - The American Psychiatric Association's program to construct and disseminate evidence-based guidelines for the practice of Psychiatry.
- Southern California Psychiatric Society - Councillor from West LA to this district branch of the APA
- West Coast College of Biological Psychiatry - An association of mental health practitioners and researchers who further excellence in these areas in the western parts of North America. Dr. Cook is a Fellow of the WCCBP and Communications Chair, and President of the College (2007-2009).
- American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology - In addition to being Board Certified by the ABPN (recertified in 2006), Dr. Cook has served as an examiner in Psychiatry, to help ensure the highest standards of quality in the profession.
